************************************ TDonCD READ ME VOLUME 4, ISSUE 2 ************************************ TOPICS: Minimum requirements Network installation Uninstalling TDonCD Updating path information Reindexing error Printer problems DLL conflicts Incompatible items list Updating prices on Windows 3.1 systems Minimum requirements -------------------- - 486 IBM compatible PC - 8MB RAM - Windows 3.1 or later - Pointing device (mouse) - Double-speed or faster CD-ROM drive - 256 color monitor display - 10K of hard disk space Note: This very limited use of hard disk space is possible only if you choose a custom installation and clear all check boxes on the "Select TDonCD Components" list. This is not a recommended installation because you cannot do any of the following: -Update or export product information -Add databases to SourceMaster -Customize the Electronic Catalog for your customers -Make Electronic Catalog on Disk installation sets -Establish discount codes -Specify price-rounding instructions If you are using a 16-bit Windows system, reading from the CD to start the Electronic Catalog might take 5 minutes or more and can cause system lockup. Normal use of the CD requires that you install at least the Electronic Catalog, which uses 47MB of hard disk space. Network installation -------------------- To install TDonCD on a network, follow these steps: Note: If you have a virus scan software package loaded, it can interfere with the installation of TDonCD. To avoid this problem, turn off the virus scan software. After the installation is complete, you can turn it back on. See your virus software manual for specific instructions. 1. Install TDonCD to any network drive. 2. Copy the TDCD.INI file from the first TDonCD installation to the "Windows" directory of each computer that is to use TDonCD. 3. Edit each TDCD.INI file to ensure that the "UserDataPath=" statement points to the correct data directory. 4. Give shared READ/WRITE access to all users who are going to run the networked version of TDonCD. If you selected a space saving installation as part of step 1, users also need shared READ access to the CD_ROM drive where you keep the CD. Uninstalling TDonCD --------------------- The Uninstall option removes only the current installation. Pre- vious versions of TDonCD are not affected if you have saved them in a different directory. You can uninstall TDonCD by click- ing either the Uninstall TDonCD icon or the Uninstall TDonCD option on the Start menu. Updating path information ------------------------- If you have moved or renamed files or directories installed by TDonCD, you need to update the TDonCD path information record. To update the record for data files in the Electronic Catalog, use the PATHS option on the SETUP menu in the Electronic Catalog. See the Electronic Catalog Help system for more information. To update the record for the Electronic Catalog itself or other TDonCD programs, Click SETUP at the bottom of the TDonCD main screen, then click Advanced Options in the dialog box that appears. Reindexing error ----------------- If you experience a re-indexing problem with a network instal- lation of TDonCD, first check to see that the application is installed correctly. TDonCD must have full READ, WRITE, and SHARE privileges when installed on a network. See the "Network installation" section for more information. Printer problems ---------------- If you are using an HP LaserJet 4 printer and receive a "NOT A GRAPHICAL DEVICE" error, replace the existing printer driver with the HP LaserJet Series II printer driver. If the proper driver is not listed, you must add it to the printer options list first. See your Windows manual for specific instructions. DLL conflicts ------------- If TDonCD shows "unusual" responses, check to see that the follow- ing ".dll" files are in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. If the files listed are present, compare their dates. If the dates are different, call TD InterAct Support at 1(800)222-7926. Follow these steps to update your prices on a Windows 3.1 system: 1. If the Electronic Catalog is running, close it. 2. Run the prodcod.exe file. You can do this from the Program Manager Run command or by double-clicking on the file in the Windows File Manager. See your operating system manual for instructions. 3. When the update process is complete, restart the Electronic Catalog and click Reindex on the Setup menu. A message gives an estimate of how long the process will take and asks if you want to proceed. Click NO to postpone the process or YES to proceed. Note: Reindexing requires exclusive file access. If you decide to proceed, be sure no other users are running the Electronic Catalog. Do not use the Electronic Catalog without reindexing the data and do not stop the reindex- ing process after it has begun. Doing so can corrupt your data and require a complete reinstallation of TDonCD. 4. When the reindexing is complete, the Electronic Catalog displays the updated information whenever you look up a product. Note: SourceMaster uses the same data files for Tech Data products, but you must refresh the SourceMaster data first. See the SourceMaster online Help for details.
